L.A. gas prices continued their downward trend for the 13th consecutive week, but at a continued slower pace, indicating that the decreases may soon end, said the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area fell 3.7 cents to $2.226 on Friday from $2.263 one week ago. The price was $2.435 per gallon one month ago and $2.037 one year prior. Prices haven’t hit a new record high since Sept. 6.

“After several weeks of declines, California wholesale gasoline prices turned up sharply this week, and that could soon translate into increases at the pump,” Auto Club spokesperson Paul Gonzales said. “The higher prices are fueled by scheduled January refinery maintenance and the annual switch from winter to summer gas blends, which takes place in February.”

The Orange County area had the lowest average price in Southern California, slipping 4.1 cents to $2.190. The Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area had the highest gas price, falling 2.6 cents to $2.390.
