Rebuke About Universal

This is in response to your recent editorial on Universal Studios (“Shrinking Universe,” June 23). Who is underwriting your paper now Orlando Fla., home of many of the competitors to Universal Studios Hollywood?

What is wrong with creating jobs with a future in a beautiful setting? Could it not be that a destination resort is what the visitors to Los Angeles need in order to view us as something other than an urban jungle? Isn’t it naive to believe that anyone would plan a vacation to Los Angeles without a visit to one of its theme parks?

Is it not beneficial to improve and bring in new transportation systems where no other stakeholder has been willing to foot the bill since the passage of Proposition 13?

Does not every neighborhood have to take on some of the pain for the regional economic gain? We’ve all had to one way or another, especially when the site’s use preceded the residency of most of its neighbors.

Is there a reason that the San Fernando Valley should be denied its fair share of “enjoying its best tourist years ever?”

True, a lot of questions are being posed, but still one more why does this publication have the words “business” in its banner since it seems to be uninterested in supporting it, at least here in the San Fernando Valley?
