Jonathan Sandler is an experienced trial litigator who specializes in business, consumer protection, employment and real estate matters. Sandler is the managing partner of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Los Angeles offices. His work for clients across the county include representing companies against consumer protection class-action lawsuits regarding alleged labeling violations. He also has advised private equity companies on protecting their portfolio of investments from lawsuits. He represented a technology company in trade-secret litigation and has successfully represented companies in Proposition 65 lawsuits and shareholder derivative suits.

What was your proudest moment?

My proudest moments are when I watch my children try something new and succeed. In terms of work, it is when I exceed client expectations—whether by obtaining a favorable verdict despite less than favorable conditions, or working strategically with my clients to ensure long-term business success, I am proud when I deliver better results than my clients hoped for. I have represented companies in “bet the company” litigation and there is virtually nothing better than the company trusting you and coming out on the other end victorious.

What is your alma mater?

Emory University for undergrad and Loyola Law School

What is your next project?

I go where my clients need me. In addition to representing companies in a wide variety of novel consumer protection claims, I am currently representing investors in a real estate Ponzi scheme, defending employers accused of various employment violations and representing clients in some significant real estate litigation. Looking forward, I am watching the regulations being passed by the state legislature as it attempts to fill holes that it perceives as left open by the Trump administration and I am closely watching the way the cannabis industry’s growth unfolds and how we can protect both the providers and consumers.

Who is your hero?

For the vast majority of my life, I would answer—my dad. While he is still my hero, I am more and more in awe of working parents who are somehow able to juggle full-time jobs and be there for their children.

What do you like best about Los Angeles?

There is always something to do, something to experience and something to learn about in Los Angeles. This is a city of immensely talented and hardworking people who come from a variety of backgrounds with diverse points of view. You are exposed to something new every day in this city and are constantly learning and being inspired.
