THE LATEST: UCLA Health received a number of gifts in 2019, including a $1 million donation to help UCLA’s dental program recruit faculty and teach restorative dentistry. UCLA Health and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA also announced plans to establish the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center of Esophageal Health, named for the late attorney. The Kardashian family has begun fundraising for the center.

BACKGROUND: Mazziotta has been a member of UCLA’s faculty for more than 35 years, serving as dean of the medical school, associate vice chancellor of UCLA Health Sciences and executive vice dean. He has chaired the neurology department and was founding director of the Ahmanson-Lovelace Brain Mapping Center. He studied neuroanatomy and computer science at Georgetown University.

WORTH NOTING: UCLA Health partnered with the Los Angeles Dodgers this year to run the first-aid station at Dodger Stadium. Beginning in 2020, it will provide care to players during home games and handle the players’ annual physicals during spring training.
