THE LATEST: Cushman has been working with his firm’s London office to finalize a deal for the city’s first new hospital in 30 years. The 200-bed facility near Buckingham Palace is scheduled to open in 2021. Cushman & Wakefield worked with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation to find the location, which was chosen from a list of 70 sites. In April the commercial real estate firm was named to Forbes’ list of America’s Best Large Employers.

BACKGROUND: Cushman got his start with the firm in 1963 in New York and moved to Los Angeles to open Cushman & Wakefield’s Southern California office in 1967. He and his twin brother, Louis Cushman, set out on their own in 1978, launching Cushman Realty Corp., which merged with Cushman & Wakefield in 2001. Cushman has served as national president of the Boy Scouts of America and president of the Boy Scouts of America Foundation. He’s Cushman & Wakefield’s board chairman and a board member at Callaway Golf Co.

WORTH NOTING: Cushman negotiated the 4-million-square-foot lease for Merrill Lynch & Co.’s office at the World Financial Center in New York.
