Shares in International Rectifier Corp. closed up12 percent Friday after the company reported that second-quarter profit nearly doubled.

The El Segundo semiconductor manufacturing company reported second-quarter net income of $42.5 million (58 cents per share), a 75 percent increase from $24.2 million (34 cents) from the same period a year earlier. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial were expecting 54 cents per share. Revenue was also up 27 percent, to $354.7 million.

Shares of International Rectifier closed up $4.74 to $42.37 Friday.
