Howard Marks is the co-chairman of Oaktree Capital Management, the global asset management firm he co-founded in 1995 with a group of individuals who had been investing together since the mid-1980s. The company now has more than 900 employees in its Los Angeles headquarters and around the world. He was previously with the TCW Group Inc., overseeing investments in distressed debt, high-yield bonds and convertible securities. He also served as TCW’s chief investment officer for domestic fixed income. He spent 16 years at Citicorp Investment Management, including serving as vice president and senior portfolio manager in charge of convertible and high yield securities. Marks holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in accounting and marketing from the Booth School of Business of the University of Chicago, where he received the George Hay Brown Prize. He is a member of the investment committees of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Edmond J. Safra Foundation; chairman of the board of trustees of the Royal Drawing School; and an emeritus trustee of the University of Pennsylvania.
