25 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK: Standard Oil Co. of California reported profits were up 94 percent while Atlantic Richfield Co. and Getty Oil Co. also reported huge fourth-quarter gains amid forecasts that the gasoline shortages plaguing the nation would ease U.S. Sen. William Proxmire, D-Wis., condemned the sale to Lockheed Aircraft Corp. of a huge government-owned aircraft manufacturing facility in Burbank for $30,087.

THE NEWSMAKER: Ted S. Burnett Jr., West Coast vice president of the Benton & Bowles ad agency, announced that “We really move our tail for you” was the theme of the new ad campaign for Los Angeles-based Continental Air Lines.
