Federal authorities in New York are investigating allegations that Hilton Hotels Corp. used information stolen from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. to create a new luxury hotel brand.
Hilton, based in Beverly Hills, said it recently received a federal grand jury subpoena from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the southern district of New York asking for documents relating to Hilton’s employment of former employees of Starwood and documents taken from Starwood by those employees.
Last week, Starwood filed a civil complaint in the southern district accusing Hilton of profiting from information stolen from Starwood by former Starwood executives who went to work for Hilton last year.
