Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the appointments of six judges to the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Mitchell Beckloff, 45, from Santa Monica, served as a commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court since 2001 and previously served as a referee for the Los Angeles County Superior Court from 1998 to 2001. He practiced privately from 1994 to 1999. Beckloff is a Democrat and fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Judson Morris.
Edmund Willcox Clarke, Jr., 56, of Manhattan Beach, has practiced law privately since 1981. Before that, he served as deputy public defender for the Los Angeles County Public Defenders Office from 1977 to 1981. Clarke is a Republican and fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge David Schacter.
Graciela Freixes, 51, of Valencia, has served as a commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court since 2005 and has practiced law privately since 1995. Freixes is a Republican and fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Philip Gutierrez.
David Gelfound, 43, of Simi Valley, served as a deputy district attorney with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office since 1994 and previously practiced law privately since 1989. Gelfound is a Republican and fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Victor Person.
John Ing, 53, of Rancho Palos Verdes, has served as a commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court since 1997. Prior to that, he served as a referee for the Los Angeles County Superior Court from 1989 to 1997 and was a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office from 1979 to 1983. He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Otis Wright and does not register his political affiliation.
Kathryn Solorzano, 46, of Los Angeles, has served as a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office since 1990. Solorzano is a Democrat and fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge George Wu.
The compensation for each position is $171,648.
