For the first time in more than two months, gas prices inched up slightly in Los Angeles for the week ended Jan. 17, according to data from the Energy Information Administration.

The average gallon of self-serve regular in the Los Angeles area was $1.981 for the week ended Jan. 17, up slightly from $1.963 the previous week. While the statewide average was $1.932, unchanged from the week earlier, it’s nearly 24 cents more than the comparable period of 2004. L.A. is 26 cents more now than it was one year prior as well.

Like last week, New York edged out California as the most expensive state in which to buy a gallon of gas, and L.A. trumped Miami as the most expensive city to fill up your tank for the week ended Jan. 17.
