Gasoline prices slid again, but ever so slightly. The average gallon of self-serve regular in Los Angeles cost $2.57 the week ended May 2, down from $2.579 the previous week, according to the Energy Information Administration. The price was 44 cents higher than one year ago.
The statewide average was $2.56, down from $2.565 the previous week. California remained the most expensive state to buy gas, and Texas remained the least expensive, at $2.115.
Among major cities, the most expensive was San Francisco, at $2.629, and the least expensive was Cleveland, at $2.264.
