Second-quarter results include income of $2.6 million (9 cents per share) related to a legal settlement with Mintek Digital, Inc. from last June.

The company’s net premiums written rose 12.6 percent to $729.9 million from $648.5 million in the year-ago quarter. Mercury General’s combined ratio was 90.1 percent in the second quarter, compared with 88.3 percent a year earlier.

Revenues rose 18.7 percent to $384.7 million from $324.2 million in the year-ago period.
Excluding a $5.5 million charge related to restructuring the ownership of the company’s China subsidiary, Herbalife reported net income of $28.3 million in the second quarter, compared with $12.1 million for the like period a year ago.
The company expects third-quarter earnings in the range of 31 cents to 33 cents per diluted share and full-year profit between $1.45 and $1.50.
