Orders for durable goods tumbled in January and initial claims for jobless benefits rose last week, according to government reports released Thursday.
New orders for long-lasting U.S. made goods fell 0.9 percent in January as demand for autos and civilian aircraft fell, the Commerce Department said on Thursday.
Separately, the Labor Department reported that first-time claims for state unemployment aid rose by 9,000 to 312,000 last week. Wall Street had expected claims of around 305,000.
