A rash of serious health violations at Downtown’s Seventh Street Market resulted earlier this month in a searing indictment of the inspection practices of county health inspectors, DowntownNews.com reports.
Now officials are taking aim at the vendors and the market’s manager who, they say, are responsible for those dangerous conditions. The building owner denies the charge.
Last week, the county Department of Public Health announced 64 suspensions and as many as 40 hearings against vendors for an array of health codes. They include rodent infestation, overflowing garbage containers and failure to have a public health license.
The city attorney is also reviewing criminal complaints lodged against 24 vendors and the market operator, Alameda Produce Inc., which is owned by Downtown developer Richard Meruelo.
