Walt Disney Co. will merge its video-game and Internet divisions, according to an internal company email posted on the Internet.
The new Disney Interactive Media Group will be led by Steve Wadsworth, who ran Burbank-based Disney’s Internet group, Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger said in an e-mail to employees that was posted on AllThingsD.com. The group will develop and distribute entertainment for all of the company’s digital media, the message said.
Bloomberg News said the e-mail had been confirmed on Friday by company spokesman John Spelich.
Disney shares were down $1, or 3 percent, to $33.50 as of midday Friday on a broader downturn in the media sector. Investors were worried about a downturn in consumer spending, as oil prices surged to more than $134 a barrel and the Labor Department reported spike in unemployment last month.
