Disney Challenge Met

Fund-raisers for the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown L.A. passed an important milestone last week by raising the $25 million in donations needed to secure a $25 million challenge grant from the Walt Disney Co.

Disney Chairman and CEO Michael Eisner had earlier stipulated that the company’s donation was contingent on a like-size donation from the community. Three major donations last week $5 million from the Ahmanson Foundation, $5 million from the Weingart Foundation and $5 million from an anonymous donor rounded off the $10 million in previously announced commitments.

So far, the concert hall has raised $175.6 million, nearly 88 percent of the total needed to fund construction.
