Some fruit trays sold at Los Angeles-area Costco wholesale stores were recalled last week because of possible contamination with salmonella, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Friday. No illnesses were reported.
The FDA said the trays were labeled “Simply Fresh Fruit Cut Fruit Tray” and had a sell-by date of Feb. 26. The trays were manufactured by Simply Fresh Fruit Inc., which was notified on Feb. 23 by its supplier that cantaloupe it had shipped was possibly contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella may cause fever, bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Only in rare cases is it fatal.
