Bush Tax, Social Security Plans Compete With Deficits

President George W. Bush’s bid to restructure Social Security and make tax cuts permanent competed with budget and trade deficit concerns during a two-day conference of economists and executives in Washington that began today.


Bush attended one of the six sessions before handpicked audiences, one on limiting lawsuits, and will sit in on one tomorrow on ways to curtail spending while changing Social Security.
