Brian Staton is president and chief executive of HMC Architects,overseeing the firm’s Southern California studios in Los Angeles, San Diego, Irvine and Ontario as well as its Las Vegas studio. Staton has been with the company since 1992. The firm specializes in health care, education and civic projects. Some of HMC’s current projects include the Joel and Dena Gambord Business and Information Technology Building at California State University-Monterey Bay, which received an honorable mention for overall sustainable design (new construction and major renovations) in the Higher Education Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Best Practice Awards competition. The 58,000-square-foot, LEED Platinum-certified building combines the university’s College of Business and School of Computing and Design and includes 13 laboratories, nine classrooms/lecture spaces and 61 offices
