Earnings: City National Corp.

City National Corp. reported second-quarter net income of $58.7 million ($1.16 per share) up from $57.7 million ($1.13 per share) for the period a year earlier. Revenue for the Beverly Hills-based bank rose 5.6 percent to $420 million. Strong demand for commercial loans as well as residential mortgages were cited as causes for the strong first half of 2006, the company said.



Fox Atomic Announces Comic/Movie Deal


Fox Atomic, the Santa Monica-based youth focused entertainment unit of Fox Filmed Entertainment, said Wednesday that it has formed a partnership with New York-based HarperCollins to publish and distribute branded graphic novels from Fox Atomic Comics. The release said that four graphic novels are planned for release in 2007, with content tied to Fox Atomic theatrical releases as well as original content.



Advanced Photonix Gets Contract


Advanced Photonix Inc. said it has entered into a $1.2 million contract with a leading European medical manufacturer. The Camarillo-based maker of optical electronic equipment expects the contract to be completed within a year. The identity of the manufacturer was not disclosed.
