The Los Angeles Business Journal won a total of six awards including one for overall excellence in the Greater Los Angeles Press Club’s annual journalism competition.

The overall excellence award was the Business Journal’s second in the past three years. In addition, the paper’s news staff received first prize in the business news reporting category for 1998’s Rich in L.A. issue, and photographer Todd Frankel received first place in the general news category for his shot of gardeners protesting a leaf blowing ordinance at City Hall.

The Business Journal also had three second-place entries: for a series of stories on corporate flight from L.A.; for a feature photo of a celebrity tailor; and for a general news photo of anxious traders at the Pacific Stock Exchange.

Other news organizations receiving the award for overall excellence were the Long Beach Press-Telegram, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Bon Appetit magazine, KNX-AM 1070 and KNBC-TV Channel 4.

During the presentation at the Beverly Hilton on June 6, the press club also honored Daily Variety columnist Army Archerd with the Joseph Quinn Memorial Award.
