90210 Party Already on Calendar
Beverly Hills City Hall has hatched a well-timed 90210 soiree.

It’s an event that’s been 100 years in the making. On Thursday, the calendar will read 9-02-10, so Beverly Hills is celebrating with an event named after its most famous ZIP code.

The event, which will take place atop the parking garage of the former Robinsons-May store on Wilshire Boulevard, will be emceed by Larry King and will feature a performance by singer Natasha Bedingfield. It’s got a Beverly Hills price tag, too: Admission is $160 per person. “Unlimited” food and drink will be provided by Beverly Hills’ top chefs, including Wolfgang Puck and Joachim Splichal.

9.02.10 Day will kick off the first Taste of Beverly Hills festival, which will spotlight food from the city’s restaurants and wine from California vintners. Taste of Beverly Hills will take place behind the Beverly Hilton in several sessions, with tickets starting at $135. A three-day pass is $510.

When Beverly Hills Mayor Jimmy Delshad first proposed hosting 9.02.10 Day to the City Council, he wasn’t taken seriously.

“They were sure it wouldn’t fly,” he said. “But I told them that we could mix it with something the city has never done before, Taste of Beverly Hills.”

Although Beverly Hills has five ZIP codes, 90210 was made famous by the 1990s television show “Beverly Hills 90210,” now airing in a “Next Generation” version. As a result, Delshad said the numerical significance of Thursday’s date was something he just couldn’t ignore.

“I’m just lucky to be the mayor when it happens” he said.
