Amazon to Hire 800 Tech, Corporate Roles in LA

Amazon.com Inc. is gearing up to hire more than 800 employees in Los Angeles County for technology and corporate roles.

The jobs are part of a broader push by the Seattle-based commerce giant to fill 1,400 positions in the Southern California area and 55,000 globally, Dot.LA reported Sept. 1.

Andrew Jassy, who succeeded founder Jeff Bezos as CEO in July, told Reuters that Amazon is looking to bolster its retail, cloud services and advertising businesses amid rising demand.

“There are so many jobs during the pandemic that have been displaced or have been altered, and there are so many people who are thinking about different and new jobs,” Jassy said in an interview with Reuters.

The Los Angeles hiring spree adds to the 600 openings announced in mid-August for Amazon's Cerritos and La Habra Amazon Fresh grocery stores, which are expected to open in the coming months. The company also operates Amazon Fresh stores in Woodland Hills, Whittier, Long Beach, Ladera Heights, Fullerton and North Hollywood.

Amazon also has offices in Culver City for Amazon Studios, its content production business.
