PacketFabric Inc., a Culver City-based data and network connectivity software company, acquired Saratoga-based R-Stor Inc., a cloud storage and data company.

The acquisition of RSTOR cloud storage and data mobility services makes PacketFabric’s cloud-based network connectivity platform more competitive, PacketFabric said in its Oct. 4 announcement. The company declined to release the financial details of the acquisition.

“By integrating RSTOR's storage infrastructure and data mobility technology at the edge of PacketFabric's carrier-class, network-as-a-service platform, we can help enterprises build an agile and high-performance cloud data core,” PacketFabric Chief Executive Dave Ward said in a statement.

A PacketFabric representative said in an email that a “high percentage, though not all” of RSTOR's roughly 80 employees will join the combined company. As PacketFabric is a remote workplace, the company will not retain RSTOR’s Saratoga headquarters, the representative said.

RSTOR was founded in 2016 and offers data storage services to clients such as social singing app Smule Inc., based in San Francisco; motion sensor manufacturer InvenSense Inc., based in San Jose, Calif.; and Japanese media company Kadokawa Corp. 


“The complete integration between our data mobility cloud and PacketFabric's network platform is the logical step in our journey to maximize the value that our customers are already enjoying,” RSTOR founder and Chief Executive Giovanni Coglitore said in a statement.


RSTOR has a total of $45 million in funding to date. 

Founded in 2015, PacketFabric offers what it calls “network as a service.” Its platform enables organizations to move data across facilities, cloud providers and private networks. The company employs more than 140 people.

Some of its major clients include the Los Angeles Times and Bay Area companies such as Zoom Inc., Pandora Media, Github Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc. 
Ward, the company’s founder, formerly served as Cisco’s chief technology and architecture officer.
