Morgan Chu is a partner at Irell & Manella and one of the most recognized names in IP litigation. Chu has secured many of the world’s largest, and in some cases precedent-setting verdicts, judgments and settlements, including most recently obtaining a $2.2 billion jury verdict in March 2021 for VLSI Technology in a suit against Intel involving microprocessor technology patents. Chu also secured a $1.2 billion judgment in April 2020 and the largest patent jury award of 2019 for Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research and Juno Therapeutics in a suit against Kite Pharma involving a cancer immunotherapy patent. Additionally, Chu argued and won a 9-0 U.S. Supreme Court decision in December 2019 on behalf of NantKwest, persuading the justices to strike down a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office policy that applicants who appeal to a district court must foot the office’s legal bills, no matter who wins.
