Partner Scott Sugino is a true O’Melveny trailblazer. The firm’s Tokyo office, opened in 1987, was its first office in Asia and became a stepping stone to the firm’s award-winning practice across Asia. A decade ago, Sugino was dispatched to that office to help develop a corporate practice in that important market. Using his Japanese language skills, knowledge of intricate corporate transactions and affinity for both leadership and creativity, Sugino was able to serve as a bridge across the Pacific for clients, helping Japanese investors capitalize on opportunities in the Western high technology and media sectors and assisting US multinationals with their operations in the sophisticated Japanese market.
Now back in Los Angeles, Sugino’s work alongside Japanese clients continues; in the past two years, he has worked on more than two dozen deals for Mitsui alone – a testament to the excellence of his work.
