Spotlight on Executive Education: Cal Poly Pomona’s College of the Extended University Provides Flexible Learning Opportunities

The College of the Extended University is the educational outreach arm of Cal Poly Pomona. The college’s mission is to extend learning opportunities beyond the borders of its campus and/or outside of regular schedules, especially to those who want to increase job skills, explore a new career path, or enhance their life with new knowledge. The college is able to accomplish this goal through a variety of professional development certificate programs, online courses and advanced degrees.

The Master’s degree programs are affordable, flexible, and convenient for the working professional. CalPoly Pomona currently offers Master’s degrees in Accelerated Accountancy, Geology, Hospitality Management, Interior Architecture, and Systems Engineering. The college is also launching a new Master of Science in International Apparel Management and has two new degrees projected to be launched in Fall 2021 – a Master of Science in Business Analytics and a Master of Science in Dietetics.

The Accelerated Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) program is designed for working professionals who wish to advance their careers, either as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or in other areas of accounting. Cal Poly Pomona’s Graduate Business programs have been accredited by the AACSB, a prestigious distinction awarded to less than 5% of the world’s 13,000 business programs.

The Master of Science in Geology prepares graduates for employment in all fields of Geological Science, placement into prestigious PhD programs, and teaching at secondary and community college levels. Fundamental to the program is a thorough understanding of basic geologic principles rooted in field and laboratory experiences. The program enables students to apply Geoscience principles to the solution of hydrologic, geophysical, environmental, geo-engineering, or resource extraction problems facing society. The geologic framework provided by the MS degree enables graduates to meet the intellectual challenges of their professional or academic careers and assume leadership roles in their profession.

The Master of Science in Hospitality Management (MSHM) degree exposes students to advanced management concepts including accounting and finance, marketing, strategic management, human resources management, as well as qualitative and quantitative analytical skills as they pertain specifically to the hospitality industry. The program is designed to prepare graduates with the depth of hospitality knowledge and skills that will equip them to make an immediate impact in the highly competitive hospitality industry or to provide the foundation for the pursuit of a terminal degree at an academic institution.

The Master of Interior Architecture (M. INT. ARCH) degree is a joint collaboration between Cal Poly Pomona and UCLA Extension and is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the Western Association of Schools (WASC). DesignIntelligence has ranked the program #3 in the nation of CIDA accredited graduate programs. Students can expect to learn from distinguished instructors who are also working professionals in the field of interior design. The program is flexible, part-time, and offers internships & job placement assistance.

The Master of Science in Systems Engineering (MSSE) is an interdisciplinary field of study that teaches how to design, develop, lead, implement and evaluate complex systems. The program includes courses in engineering management, management of innovation, leadership, systems sustainability, and managing organizational change in an interdisciplinary environment.

The Master of Science in International Apparel Management provides a program of advanced study in the management and technological challenges, practices, and solutions for the international apparel creation and distribution sectors. It is offered to meet the needs of society for highly qualified managers and educators. The curriculum is structured so students can complete a course of study tailored to their professional interests, focusing on different aspects of the apparel business, including apparel production, product development, merchandising and marketing.
