Arjun Rao has built a national reputation for handling high stakes consumer class actions and financial services litigation including regulatory matters and government investigations, as well as defending companies in a wide range of actions. This past year he has worked with JPMorgan Chase, HSBC, Discover, Capital One, American Express and BMW Financial Services in a range of individual and class actions relating to various consumer protection statutes and alleged unfair business practices, with many of the issues in question at the cutting edge of law. Among other recent victories, Rao successfully enforced contractual provisions requiring disputes to be resolved through individual arbitration on behalf of major financial institutions where plaintiffs sought to pursue claims in court on a supposed class-wide basis. In addition, Rao obtained dismissals of lawsuits asserting purported class-wide claims under the Fair Credit Reporting Act thereby avoiding potentially time-consuming and costly discovery.
