Theane Evangelis has served as lead counsel in a wide range of groundbreaking constitutional, class action, and appellate litigation. In particular, she is leading a wide range of high-profile litigation matters involving the “gig economy.” Evangelis has devoted herself to defending the gig economy, which is all the more critical now when millions find themselves unable to secure traditional employment, and the public is relying on on-demand services that governments have deemed “essential critical infrastructure.”
Among her recent highlights have been her work defeating application for a temporary restraining order against Uber Technologies, Inc. seeking to impose prior restraints on Uber’s speech regarding California’s Proposition 22. She also defended Uber in several landmark cases challenging its independent contractor model, including under California’s new law AB5. She has also defended Postmates in numerous gig-economy suits.
