Robert Kyncl

Chief Business Officer, YouTube

THE LATEST: Kyncl spent the past year responding to concerns that YouTube is not doing enough to remove inappropriate — and wildly popular — content from its platform. In September, he asked the platform’s creators to speak out against a restrictive copyright law in Europe that would “undermine this creative economy, discouraging or even prohibiting platforms from hosting user-generated content.” Despite Kyncl’s efforts, the law eventually passed.

BACKGROUND: As YouTube’s chief business officer, Kyncl oversees commercial, creative and content partnerships for the platform. He was previously vice president of content at Netflix where he spearheaded the streaming company’s content acquisition.

WORTH NOTING: The first big American movie the Czechoslovakian-born Kyncl watched was a pirated copy of “The Terminator,” dubbed entirely by one voice actor.
