Nixon Peabody Counsel Sonia Nayak’s practice centers on real estate development and financing, including new markets tax credits, affordable housing and commercial lending. Much of her work involves bringing private capital to community and affordable housing development projects in Los Angeles, throughout California and nationwide. For example, she helps investors – large financial institutions, regional banks and funds – leverage unique financing structures and tools to infuse development projects with the capital needed to bring critical services to underserved neighborhoods and communities. Some of the projects she has led in the past year include Jordan Downs Plaza – she led the representation of Genesis LA Economic Growth Corporation, Los Angeles Development Fund, and California Statewide Communities Development Corporation in financing to facilitate the redevelopment of Jordan Downs Plaza, part of one of the largest urban redevelopment projects in the United States.
