Kaplan serves on several of the investment committees for certain funds managed by Ares. He joined the firm in 2003 from Shelter Capital Partners, where he was a senior principal for three years. Kaplan serves as chairman of the parent entities of Neiman Marcus Group Inc. and Smart & Final Inc. and as a board member for several companies. He also serves on the board of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, is a trustee of the Center for Early Education, and is a member of the president’s advisory group of the University of Michigan. He graduated with a BBA, beta gamma sigma, from the University of Michigan’s School of Business Administration.
