Site Joins Hunt For Job Seekers

LinkedIn can be helpful for recruiters scanning for talent. But it’s hard to tell if someone on that site is looking for a job.

Enter online employment marketplace RampUp, a Santa Monica startup that streamlines the recruiting process, at least for a segment of the health care industry.

The site allows job seekers to post a profile listing traditional details such as work history, education and salary expectations. And they can block their current employer from seeing their profiles.

Employers who plunge into the talent pool can send any target candidate a preliminary job offer to gauge their interest.

“We’ve basically created an exclusive club of experienced health care professionals,” said co-founder Morgan O’Malley of the bootstrapped platform, which launched in January.

RampUp is initially focusing on health care sales and marketing professionals, but eventually it might expand to other areas in the health care field. The site is free for candidates; employers pay the company 15 percent of the base annual salary of a hire. RampUp said its fee is less than a typical headhunter; it has a dozen active clients.

O’Malley, who has a background in personal finance and private equity, started working with college friend Jason Ayachi on RampUp in 2013. Ayachi, who had been recruiting for a health care technology company, wanted to streamline the process. He said the health care industry seemed a perfect sector in which to work because it’s undergoing so many changes.

“We wanted employers to find talent when they want, versus being bombarded when they’re not ready,” said Ayachi.
