Surf Air Begins Oakland Service

Surf Air started service on Monday to Oakland International Airport, the eighth destination for the aviation startup that largely serves executives and professionals.

The Santa Monica private air carrier now will offer daily nonstop flights between Oakland and Hawthorne Airport, Santa Barbara and Truckee-Lake Tahoe.

Surf offers an “all you can fly” model for $1,750 a month with flights from the Los Angeles area, including from Burbank Bob Hope Airport to Santa Barbara, San Carlos, Carlsbad and Las Vegas. The company has more than 900 members.

Surf Air Chief Executive Jeff Potter said Oakland was an ideal location for expansion due to limited premium service with Los Angeles, and no commercial service to Santa Barbara or Truckee-Tahoe.

“Oakland provides easy access to downtown San Francisco and East Bay communities where we have high member and potential member demand,” Potter said in a prepared statement.
