Charged Up: Quallion LLC, a Sylmar custom battery maker, has received a $5.8 million grant from the California Energy Commission to develop an automated manufacturing line for battery components. The automated production line would make lithium ion modules as building blocks for batteries, including those used in electric vehicles. The recent grant is in addition to $1 million Quallion received from the commission in November.

On the Move: QSR Systems, a renter of Avid editing systems to the entertainment industry, has purchased new headquarters in Valencia. QSR, which is moving from another site in Valencia, paid more than $2 million for the 20,000-square-foot property at 24950 Avenue Kearny.

Taking Root: The Veggie Grill, a Manhattan Beach-based restaurant chain serving all-plant dishes, has opened an outpost in Fairfax District’s Original Farmers Market. The new location has seating for 113 and features a covered outdoor patio.

BALDWIN HILLS

Online Pickup: Evolve Media Corp., a Baldwin Hills digital media company, has acquired WholesomeBabyFood.com, a Derry, N.H.-based site with a focus on homemade baby food recipes. WholesomeBabyFood will be folded into Evolve’s Momtastic.com site.

WESTWOOD

Done Deal: Macquarie Group Ltd., a Sydney, Australia-based banking services firm, has completed its acquisition of Regal Capital Advisors LLC, a Westwood boutique investment bank specializing in the gaming, lodging and leisure industries. Regal staff has moved to Macquarie’s Century City office. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY

CITY OF INDUSTRY

Asset Acquisition: Fleetwood-Fibre Packaging & Graphics Inc., headquartered in City of Industry, will acquire the assets of Impact Manufacturing, a Corona company specializing in clamshell containers and other printed packaging for retail products. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MONROVIA

Plugged In: AeroVironment Inc., a Monrovia maker of military drone aircraft, and electric-car battery testers and chargers, has been selected by BMW Group as the preferred provider of electric vehicle charge equipment, accessories and installation services in support of the all-electric BMW ActiveE. BMW Group, a division of Woodcliff, N.J.-based BMW of North America LLC, plans to release the ActiveE this fall.

CORRECTION
