The Pentagon has announced two supply and service contacts with Northrop Grumman Corp. totaling more than $100 million.

The Los Angeles defense contractor was awarded a $98.7 million contract to buy so-called expeditionary litening pods and upgrades for several Navy aircraft, the Pentagon said late Monday.

Litening pods are units that are mounted externally on aircraft and contain technology that improve the performance of the aircraft. The Northrop Grumman pods will contain advanced navigation and targeting technology for the AV-8B Harriers, F/A-18 Hornets and other two other aircraft.

In addition, Northrop received a $13.4 million contract boost from the Air Force related to the Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle. The company will provide engineering, manufacturing and development services that will replace the engine turbines on the Global Hawk with a commercial variant.

Shares were down 14 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $48.67 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
