Lease Renewal: William Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr has renewed its lease for 14,418 square feet of office space on the 21st floor of Two California Plaza in downtown Los Angeles. The 52-story office tower, at 350 S. Grand Ave., was built in 1992. Terms of the renewal were not disclosed.

Mad Scientists: USC has opened an off-campus restaurant and pub, the Lab, which serves two specialty beers, Lab Amber Lager and Trojan Blonde, in laboratory beakers. The new restaurant is located next to the Galen Center sports venue at 3500 S. Figueroa St.



Licensing Spinoff: UWink Inc., a Van Nuys restaurant company and developer of interactive restaurant software, has formed Tapcode Holdings Inc., a technology licensing business. Tapcode will license software for interactive kiosks and tabletop touchscreens in eateries that allow diners to place orders directly to the kitchen, cutting down reliance on a traditional wait staff.

Small Loans: The Valley Economic Development Corp., a Van Nuys non-profit dedicated to assisting small businesses, has teamed with the San Fernando Valley Financial Development Corp. and First Bank of Beverly Hills to launch the West Valley Microloan Program. The program will provide loans to qualified existing and startup businesses in the western San Fernando Valley.


New Partnership: Miller Kaplan Arase & Co. LLP, a North Hollywood accounting firm, has acquired Sherman Oaks firm Wolinsky Becker & Hurewitz LLP. The firm is the largest in the San Fernando Valley region with 79 certified public accountants. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.



Office Space: Pargold LP has purchased a Long Beach office building for $2.96
million from Edward and Charmay Allred. The property, at 2777 N. Long Beach
Blvd., is 10,204 square feet and was built
in 1980.


Retail Deal: La Cienega Shopping Center Development LLC has sold an Inglewood retail building for $3.63 million to a private investor. The 4,304-square-foot property, at 6802-6806 La Cienega Blvd., is part of the multitenant La Cienega & Centinela Shopping Center.



Green Tagged: Ricardo Beverly Hills, a La Mirada luggage designer and distributor, has partnered with the Sierra Club to develop eco-friendly luggage and travel accessories. The new luggage line, Muir Pass, is scheduled to hit stores in the fall.

Property Purchased: Process Fab Inc. has bought a Cerritos industrial property for $3.32 million from Johnson Aluminum Foundry. The 22,022-square-foot, one-story property, at 16502 Marquardt Ave., was built in 1969 and includes 2,000 square feet of office space.



Paralysis Product: Bioness Inc., a Valencia designer and manufacturer of devices that treat partial leg paralysis, has signed an agreement with the Orthotic & Prosthetic Group of America, making Bioness' products available to 1,300 independently owned orthotic and prosthetic facilities. Members of the orthotic and prosthetic organization will be trained to evaluate patients and offer the device for home use.



Goaaal!: Fox Soccer Channel, a programming network within Beverly Hills-based Fox Networks Groups, has announced that it will offer weekly text message alerts and match information to soccer fans. Pricing information varies depending on mobile carriers.
