DirecTV Group Inc. said Tuesday that it had signed a five-year extension of its bundled distribution deal with Qwest Communications International Inc.
Denver’s Qwest has bundled its own voice and broadband services with the satellite TV services of El Segundo’s DirecTV since 2004. New services under the strategic alliance will include the ability to record TV programs or order video on demand from any Internet-connected computer using Qwest’s Web portal. In turn, phone customers will soon be able to play voice mail messages, keep track of incoming and outgoing calls, and handle other phone functions from their DirecTV remote.
“The agreement enables us to further evolve our successful relationship with Qwest by offering more ways for customers to take advantage of the integration,” David Olsen, DirecTV senior vice president, sales, said in a statement.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
DirecTV shares closed up 9 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $24.92 on the Nasdaq.
