Union Bank of California has elected Michael Banner to its community advisory board. Banner is chief executive of Los Angeles Local Development Corp. Inc., a non-profit community development financial institution that serves low-income and distressed communities.

Ares Management LLC in Los Angeles has hired Greg Margolies as senior partner. Margolies was formerly a managing director of Merrill Lynch.

Anne A. Williams has been appointed to the board of California United Bank in Encino. Williams is executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief credit officer at the bank.

Entertainment

Universal Studios Hollywood has named Kim Weedmark vice president of group sales. Weedmark was previously director of regional sales and marketing at Universal Studios.

Jerry Neuman has been appointed to the Mixed-Income Housing Technical Advisory Committee of the City of Los Angeles. Neuman is partner in the Los Angeles office of Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP, a law firm with seven offices in California.

L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas has named Daniel A. Rosenfeld as his senior deputy responsible for planning, transportation, environment and economic development. Rosenfeld is co-founder of Urban Partners LLC, a Los Angeles-based real estate firm.

Human Resources

Carrie Rogers has joined Equis Financial Staffing, a Calabasas-based firm, as director of staffing services. Most recently, Rogers was president and owner of CareerBizz, a recruiting company based in Agoura Hills specializing in mid- to high-level accounting and technical professionals.

Theodora Oringher Miller & Richman PC, a Century City-based business law firm, has promoted Scott K. Behrendt to senior associate. Behrendt was an associate with the firm.

The downtown Los Angeles headquarters of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, a national law firm, has named Bryan D. Daly, Charles L. Kreindler and Peter Morris as partners specializing in white collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation. Also, the firm named Melissa K. Eaves and Barbara E. Taylor as special counsels. Most recently, Daly, Kreindler and Morris were partners in the Los Angeles office of Mayer Brown LLP. Eaves and Taylor were of counsel at Mayer Brown.

Frandzel Robins Bloom & Csato L.C., a Los Angeles-headquartered law firm, has named Bernard R. Given and Hal D. Goldflam partners, and Carol A. Robertson senior counsel. Given was formerly partner with Beck & Given, a law firm based in El Paso, Texas. Goldflam was an associate at Frandzel. Robertson was senior counsel at Washington Mutual Bank.

The Los Angeles office of Sedgwick Detert Moran & Arnold LLP, a San Francisco-headquartered international law firm, has promoted Robert Kum to partner. Kum was most recently associate with the firm.

Renuka V. Jain has joined Khorrami Pollard & Abir LLP, a Los Angeles-based law firm, as associate. Jain was most recently assistant attorney general in the civil Medicaid fraud division in Texas.

Archer Norris, a Walnut Creek-based law firm, has named Joseph V. Macha partner in its Los Angeles office. Macha was formerly of counsel with the firm.

Christopher A. Mathews has joined the Los Angeles headquarters of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges LLP as partner. Mathews previously served as partner at Howrey LLP.

Sarah Benator has been promoted to partner of the health care group in the Los Angeles office of Arent Fox, a national law firm headquartered in Washington D.C. Benator was most recently an associate with the firm.

Murchison & Cumming LLP, a Los Angeles-based law firm, has named Heather L. Mills as partner. Mills previously an associate at the firm's Los Angeles office.

Joel D. Schwartz has been promoted to partner at Nachshin & Weston LLP, a West Los Angeles-based family law firm. Schwartz was previously an associate at the firm.

Wood Smith Henning & Berman LLP has named Domingo R. Tan partner at its Westwood headquarters. Tan was formerly senior counsel with the firm.

The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles has named Steven Karash executive vice president of sales and marketing. Karash was most recently national advertising director in the Los Angeles office of New York Times Media Group.

Ascent Media Group, a Santa Monica media and entertainment distribution company, has named Mara Sternthal a senior vice president of business development. She was previously a consultant.

The Wellness Community-West Los Angeles, a non-profit organization providing support for people affected by cancer, has appointed Eric Salo as chairman. Salo serves as senior vice president of asset management at Macerich, a Santa Monica-based developer of retail properties.

Retail

James Linesch has joined Reed's Inc., a South Los Angeles-based beverage manufacturer, as chief financial officer. Linesch recently served as chief financial officer at AdStar Inc., a public company providing ad placement services and payment processing software for publishers.

Transportation

UTi Worldwide, a Long Beach-based company providing air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage and other supply chain management services, has named Eric W. Kirchner chief executive and board member. Kirchner was previously president of freight forwarding with UPS Supply Chain Solutions.
