j2 Global Buys Fax Technology for $12 Million

J2 Global Communications Inc. said Wednesday it acquired the assets, including the subscriber base, related to the Internet virtual fax technology of CallWave Inc., a San Francisco provider of Internet and mobile-based communications services.

The Hollywood provider of outsourced, value-added messaging and communications services did not say how much it paid for the assets, but in its own press release CallWave said it received $12 million

J2 purchased a variety of intellectual property related to its digital fax technology, plus a license to CallWave’s issued and pending patents, it said.

J2 Global shares were down 39 cents, or 2 percent, to $18.85 in morning trading on the Nasdaq.
