Businessman and designer Georges Marciano , best-known as co-founder of Guess Inc. , announced Tuesday that he is running for governor of California.

Marciano, who recently considered running for mayor in Beverly Hills, will run as an independent for the state’s top job because he wants to avoid the “current political machine,” said Marciano manager Rod Harrell. “We see there are serious problems. We don’t need the same old system.”

Marciano, who moved to the United States in 1977, has a three-step platform , improving the economy, especially with state government; protecting constitutional rights; and providing justice for the people, Harrell said.
