Mike Meers has joined David Forbes Hibbert, a Santa Monica-based architectural firm, as a principal. Meers was previously a principal with Nadel Architects in Sacramento.

Glendale-based Americas United Bank has hired George Sevilla as director of sales. Sevilla was previously team leader for Illinois-based Banco Popular North America.


DeVry University has appointed Tom Donini president of its Long Beach campus, Scott Sand president of the Sherman Oaks campus, and Bill Van Zwol metro president of DeVry University Southern California and president of the Pomona campus. Donini was previously dean at the Long Beach campus. Sand was dean of student services and group director of student finance at the Seattle campus. Van Zwol was metro president for DeVry's Dallas-Fort Worth-area locations.


Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. has named Mary Parent chairwoman of the worldwide motion picture group. Parent was previously vice chairwoman of worldwide production for Universal Pictures.

Thinkwell Design & Production, an entertainment developer for destination resorts, theme parks, sports teams, corporations and museums, has hired Jeff Rosen as director of new business development. Rosen was previously director of project development for brand experiences at BRC Imagination Arts, a company that specializes in the design and production of corporate visitor centers, cultural heritage sites and museums.

Shane Shuhart has joined Nederlander Concerts, a company that owns and operates concert venues, as director of talent. Shuhart was
previously an agent with the Agency for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles.

Health Care

James R. Brooks has joined Pharmavite, a pharmaceutical company that manufactures vitamins, minerals, herbs and dietary supplements, as vice president of science and technology. Brooks previously served as the head of research and product development at Bolthouse Farms, a company that sells retail beverages, juice concentrates, fiber and fresh produce.


J. Andrew Douglas has been promoted to partner at Richardson & Harman PC, a Pasadena-based law firm. Douglas was previously an associate.

Fox Rothschild LLP, a national law firm, has named Martin D. Fern, Jeffrey S. Kravitz and Donald S. Urrabazo as partners. Previously, Fern was a partner in the new media, technology and intellectual property practice with Silver & Freedman, a Los Angeles-based law firm. Kravitz was a partner in the intellectual property and entertainment practices at Silver & Freedman. Urrabazo was counsel at the Los Angeles office of Morgan Lewis & Bockius.

Joseph T. Lynyak III has joined the Los Angeles office of national law firm Venable LLP as partner. Lynyak was previously a partner at financial services law firm Buckley Kolar LLP.

Mitchell B. Stein has been named president of the Century City Bar Association. Mitchell is a partner at Silver & Freedman.


Iris Worldwide, a global marketing company, has hired Bradford Bryen as chief executive of its Los Angeles-based North American operations. Bryen was previously president of U.S. Concepts, an event and entertainment marketing company.


Lionel Brown has been appointed to the board of Clare Foundation, a Santa Monica-based non-profit organization that provides treatment for alcohol and substance abuse. Brown is co-founder and chief operating officer for Future Graphics LLC, a Los Angeles-based company that provides imaging supplies.

California Endowment has named Mona K. Jhawar and Lori M. Nascimento as evaluation officers. Previously, Jhawar was a policy analyst for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Nascimento was associate director for the division of community health at USC's Keck School of Medicine.

Public Relations

Coby King has joined the Los Angeles office of MWW Group, a national public relations firm, as senior vice president and general manager. King previously owned Coby King Communications and consulted for MWW.

Real Estate

International tenant advisory firm Studley has promoted Liron Nelik to associate director in its West Los Angeles office and Michael Shuken to managing director in its downtown office. Nelik was previously assistant director. Shuken was associate director.


Thomson Elite, a company that provides business software to professional services firms, has named Kim Massana senior vice president of strategic marketing and international, Jesus Ortiz vice president of global deployment strategy and Jeff Schuett chief technology officer. Massana was previously director of sales and marketing for Sweet & Maxwell, a publisher of books for the legal and regulatory markets. Ortiz was chief technology officer with Thomson. Schuett served as executive vice president of client services and operations at Avst, a software developer.


The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has named J. Christopher Lytle deputy executive director and chief operating officer. Lytle was previously the port's managing director of trade relations and port operations.


Stuart R. Hemphill has been appointed vice president of Southern California Edison. Hemphill most recently served as director of resource planning and strategy with the utility.


The Los Angeles chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners has honored Gisselle Acevedo with its Inspiration Award, Natalie Cole with the Rising Star Award, Renee White Fraser with the Legacy Award, Mimi Song with the Leadership/WBO Award and Maria Contreras-Sweet with the Advocate Award. The association also honored Southern California Edison with its Corporate Partner Award. Acevedo is chief executive of non-profit Para Los Ninos. Cole is chief executive of OurWeekly Newspaper. Fraser is chief executive of Fraser Communications. Contreras-Sweet is chairwoman of Promerica Bank. Song is chief executive of Superior Grocers.
