Laura Oberhelman has joined Manhattan Beach-based Kinecta Federal Credit Union as director of corporate communications. Previously, Oberhelman was vice president of public relations for New Century Financial Corp., an Irvine-based mortgage lender.

City National Bank has named David Coppel senior vice president and private banking relationship manager in downtown Los Angeles and Kerry Turner senior vice president and manager in Sherman Oaks. Coppel was most previously senior vice president with Bank of America in Westlake Village. Turner was senior vice president and regional manager at East West Bank.

Education

Omar Del Cueto has been named executive director of Los Angeles Unified School District's iDesign Schools. Del Cueto was previously principal of Garfield High School in East L.A.

Entertainment

The Los Angeles office of MGM HD, the high-definition movie channel of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc., has hired Gracelyn Brown as vice president of programming, Doug Chalfant as executive creative director and Bernard Nguyen-Sovan as manager of programming. Previously, Brown was director of programming for KTLA (Channel 5). Chalfant was director of creative marketing solutions with Reelz Channel in Los Angeles. Nguyen-Sovan was traffic manager at World Champion Sports Network in Los Angeles.

Michael Hopkins has been promoted to president of affiliate sales and marketing for Fox Cable Networks. Hopkins was previously executive vice president and general manager of affiliate sales and marketing with the network.

Government

Eric Brown has been appointed deputy chief of staff in the office of Councilwoman Janice Hahn. Brown was previously deputy mayor in the administration of Mayor Jim Hahn.

Health Care

City of Hope has named William M. Gorenstein vice president of finance. Gorenstein previously served as associate vice president of finance for the University of Pennsylvania Health System.



Law

The Los Angeles office of Winston & Strawn LLP, an international commercial law firm, has appointed Jerry Bloom chairman of its energy practice group. Bloom is a partner at the firm.

Robert W. Dickerson has joined the Los Angeles office of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP as partner in its intellectual property group. Dickerson was previously head of intellectual property group at Jones Day.

Hunton & Williams LLP has named Laura M. Franze and Roland M. Juarez partners in its Los Angeles office. Previously, Franze and Juarez were partners with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, an international law firm.

Sonya Karpowich has been appointed of counsel for Shabani & Shabani LLP, a Century City-based real estate law firm. Karpowich was previously an associate with Cox Castle & Nicholson LLP.

Jon D. Meer has joined the Los Angeles office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, a national law firm, as partner in the labor and employment law department. Meer previously served as partner at DLA Piper.

Steptoe & Johnson LLP has named Michael F. Wright of-counsel in its Century City office. Wright was previously a founding partner of Case Knowlson Jordan & Wright LLP, a Southern California-based business law firm.

Jeffer Mengels Butler & Marmaro LLP has named Peter Mieras counsel and Noel Tapia senior associate in its Los Angeles office. Previously, Mieras was chief prosecutor with the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Tapia was an associate with Greenberg Traurig LLP.

G. Thomas Stromberg has joined the Los Angeles office of Kaye Scholer LLP as partner in the corporate and finance department. Stromberg was previously a partner in the corporate department and head of private equity practice for Winston & Strawn LLP.

Manufacturing

Industrial Metal Supply Co., a Sun Valley-based metal distributor, has hired Martin J. Mechsner as general manager and chief engineer of its fabrication division. Mechsner is president of the Small Manufacturers' Institute and adjunct professor of technology and mechanical engineering at California State University Los Angeles.

Marketing

Jetset Studios, a Los Angeles-based online marketing agency, has promoted Rynda Laurel to vice president of operations. Laurel was previously strategic director with the agency.

Non-Profit

United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, a Woodland Hills-based non-profit organization that helps individuals with cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities, has appointed Nicholas P. Roxborough president of its board. Roxborough is co-managing partner at Roxborough Pomerance & Nye LLP, a Los Angeles-based law firm.

Production

Karen White has joined Widget Post, a Los Angeles-based sound studio, as vice president of sales. White was previously vice president of sales at Pacific Soundwaves, a Burbank-based sound and postproduction studio.
