There’s No Denying

Universal City is a fine place and all. Still, it’s no Beverly Hills.

But it suits Santiago Pozo, founder and chief executive of Arenas Entertainment Marketing, just fine. Pozo moved his company from Beverly Hills recently after purchasing a building on Barham Boulevard.

So why make the move?

“Well, because here I can own, and in Beverly Hills I can only rent it’s as simple as that,” said Pozo, who founded his company, which markets television programs and films to the national Latino market. Arenas’ client list includes Walt Disney Pictures, United Artists and New Line Cinema, among other companies.

Of course, there are a few things Pozo will miss about Beverly Hills, including its fine Italian dining options.

“I might be missing lunch at Il Pastaio but to tell you the truth I don’t miss the drive because I live in Studio City, in the hills,” he said.

Al and Moses

Dave Pogue, senior managing director of asset services western region for CB Richard Ellis Group, goes by a few other names.

Al Gore Jr. is one moniker. And the best of all: Green Moses. Are you confused?

Here’s the explanation: Pogue leads CBRE’s efforts to convince clients to go green and make their offices more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The Al Gore moniker comes from Pogue’s traveling slideshow on “sensible sustainability” that some co-workers have compared to Gore’s traveling presentation that was documented in the 2006 film “An Inconvenient Truth.”

The Green Moses nickname stems from a CBRE poster titled “101 Tips to Successful Sustainability,” which Pogue uses in his pitches.

“People were saying this poster is like the tablets brought down from the mountaintop,” he said.

“Clients are coming around.”

Strike Breaker?

Since purchasing Sunset Gower Studios and taking it over in August, commercial real estate operator Hudson Capital LLC has set out to streamline business at the film lot.

Those efforts have included revamping stages, upgrading office space and continuing the construction of a new on-site building for Technicolor.

Since the firm has spent so much time streamlining a Hollywood business, might it decide to bring its expertise to help settle the Writers Guild of America strike?

Howard Stern, Hudson Capital managing partner, says no, at least for now.

“I think there are a lot of bright people who know what they are doing,” Stern said.

The hit television show “Heroes” is shot at Sunset Gower Studios, but the program’s soundstages, of course, are dark.
