Audit, tax and advisory firm KPMG LLP has named Kurt Ramey as partner in the information technology advisory services practice. Randy Love and John Matson have joined as principals in the operations risk management and chief financial officer advisory practices. Ramey was most recently vice president of business development with Science Applications International Corp. in San Diego. Love and Matson were previously founders of Connect-US, a consulting firm.

Kenneth R. Bettencourt has been promoted to first vice president of American Business Bank Corp.'s headquarters office in Los Angeles. Bettencourt was previously senior vice president and senior relationship manager with the bank.

Bessemer Trust Co., a wealth management and investment advisory firm, has hired Mindy Day-Hodges as senior vice president and associate client account manager of the firm's Los Angeles office. Day-Hodges most recently served as senior vice president and wealth manager at U.S. Trust.


Stantec, a West Coast-based design and consulting firm, has named Jimmy Alcala as principal of urban land engineering in its Los Angeles office. Alcala was most recently director of land development in California for American Premiere Homes.


Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.'s Worldwide Television Group has hired Christopher Ottinger as executive vice president of international television distribution for its Los Angeles office. Ottinger was formerly executive vice president for both Fox World and Fox Television Studios International.

Andrew Robbins has joined the Los Angeles office of MusicBox, a music production company, as director of film and TV music. Robbins was previously director of film/TV music at Megatrax, a contemporary music production company.


Kirkland & Ellis LLP, an international law firm, has promoted Erin N. Brady and Rebecca J. Wahlquist to partners. Brady and Wahlquist were previously attorneys with the firm.

Jeffrey M. Weiner has been named partner in corporate, securities and finance group for the Century City office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, an international law firm. Weiner was formerly a partner in corporate and securities practice group of DLA Piper, an international law firm.


Jim Garfield has been named a director at the Los Angeles office of Active Marketing Group, a San Diego-based marketing and promotions agency. Garfield was most recently senior publicist and new business specialist at Roddan Paolucci Roddan, an advertising and public relations agency.

Wongdoody, a Los Angeles-based marketing ideas agency, has named Cristina Prusz as associate director of account management and Ben Klinger as associate of client partnerships. Prusz was account executive at JWT in Chicago. Klinger was previously a freelance music supervisor and project manager on Toyota Scion and Lexus brands.


The Los Angeles Times has named David Lauter as California editor. Lauter was previously deputy foreign editor with the Times.


Promotion Marketing Association, a New York-based non-profit organization, has appointed four Los Angeles professionals to its board. The association has named Mark Mears as chairman, and Jim Holbrook, George Leon and Jamie Stevens as board members. Mears is senior vice president of marketing and sales for Universal Studios Hollywood. Holbrook is chief executive of Emak Worldwide Inc., a marketing agency. Leon serves as executive vice president of worldwide consumer marketing at Sony Pictures Entertainment. Stevens is executive vice president of marketing partnerships for AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour.

Marisa Garcia-Villanueva has been named South Bay regional manager for the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. Villanueva was formerly a corporate developer for the Orange County Business Service Center, an affiliate of Coastline Community College.

Renee Fraser has been appointed to the board of Volunteers of America, a non-profit human services organization. Fraser is founder and chief executive of Fraser Communications, an advertising agency.

Betsy Merryman has joined the Los Angeles office of Fleishman-Hillard as senior vice president for the firm's health care practice. Merryman was previously senior vice president and managing director of FischerHealth, a communications firm specializing in health care.

Real Estate

Rexford Industrial LLC, a Los Angeles-based industrial real estate firm, has named Christopher J. Engel as director of acquisitions. Engel was previously director of acquisitions at Abbey Co., a real estate company.

CB Richard Ellis Group Inc., an international commercial real estate services firm, has promoted Thomas B. McDonnell to president and national practice leader for its valuation and advisory services group in the Los Angeles office. McDonnell was formerly senior managing director at the company's Chicago office.


ThisNext, a Santa Monica-based online media and social shopping company, has named Scott Morrow as president and board member. Morrow most recently served as executive vice president of product and marketing for IAC/Citysearch.


Make-A-Wish Foundation is honoring Nancy Cartwright with the Wish Icon Award, Greg Garcia with Entertainment Industry Wish Award and Manny Mashouf with Individual Wish Granter Award. Cartwright is the voice of Bart Simpson on the Fox Broadcasting Co.'s television program "The Simpsons." Garcia is the creator of television program "My Name is Earl." Mashouf is chairman and founder of Bebe Stores Inc. The awards will be presented at the Wish Night Awards Gala on Nov. 2.

The 2007 Superior Achievement in Design and Imaging Awards honored the Waterside at Marina del Rey, designed by the Orange County office of Perkowitz+Ruth Architects, as New or Renovated Community Power Center, and Westfield Group's Westfield Century City as New Fast/Casual Dining winner.
