The Money: Nephew of Walt Disney still largest individual owner of Walt Disney Co. common shares. Also chairman of family-controlled private investment company, Shamrock Holdings Inc., with an estimated $2 billion under management. Net worth has benefited from 26 percent rise in Disney share price over the past year.

Buzz: Disney now back to focusing on his private equity firm and beloved yacht racing after making headlines a few years ago as the dissident shareholder who helped push out longtime Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Michael Eisner. Shamrock Holdings tends to specialize in Israeli businesses and California real estate, but includes eclectic investments such as 80 percent stake of the legendary Harlem Globetrotters exhibition basketball team, and 6 percent of Collector Universe Inc., which determines authenticity and worth of collectibles. Now add entertainment technology to mix: Shamrock in March agreed to invest $50 million in Beverly Hills-based Real D, which has installed 3-D systems at more than 700 movie screens around the country encouraging the production of 3-D films. That includes Disney Co.'s own "Meet the Robinsons," which opened in March. An avid sailor, Disney spends a lot of time in New Zealand racing his 77-foot yacht. His new documentary, "Morning Light," will chronicle the adventures of a group of 14 youths with no sailing experience who tried out to become the youngest crew in this year's Transpacific Yacht Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu. A favorite charity is Burbank's Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, long the Disney family hospital. Roy has donated $10 million over the years.
