Banking and Finance

GE Commercial Finance Media, Communications & Entertainment, a financial services company headquartered in Norwalk, Conn., has hired Matthew H. Fleming as senior vice president based in Los Angeles. Fleming was previously vice president and manager of the communications media division at Union Bank of California in Los Angeles.


Don Mullinax has been named chairman of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, a provider of anti-fraud training and educational services. Mullinax is currently a principal in the forensic and dispute services practice at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP, an accounting firm.


Wells Fargo Community Advisory Board, which advises Wells Fargo banks on business and community-related issues, has named Maria Cabildo as a board member in Los Angeles. Cabildo is currently executive director of East L.A. Community Corp., a non-profit group advocating economic and social justice.


Construction

John P. Martin was hired as vice president and director of science and technology at Pasadena-based Tmad Taylor & Gaines, an engineering and construction-related services company. Martin was most recently vice president and director of Syska & Hennessey Group, an engineering technology company in San Diego.


Entertainment

Kyle Davies has joined Overture Films, which develops, produces, acquires, and distributes motion pictures, as executive vice president, theatrical distribution. Davies was most recently senior vice president of the western division for Paramount Pictures Motion Picture Distribution.


KCET, Southern California's public television station, has promoted Joyce Campbell to vice president of education and children's programming. Campbell was previously executive director of production at the station.


Don Orris has been promoted to western regional vice president for Ticketmaster, an event ticketing company. Orris was most recently senior general manager at the company's Dallas office.


TV Guide Channel, an entertainment network based in Hollywood, has hired Megan Costello as vice president of research. Costello was formerly vice president of research for CBS Television Distribution.


Government

Steven J. Golightly was promoted to director of the Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department. Golightly was most recently chief deputy director of the department.

Hospitality

Dominique Crenn has been hired as executive chef at Abode Restaurant and Lounge in Santa Monica. Crenn was previously executive chef at Manhattan Country Club in Manhattan Beach.


Pink Taco LLC, a Los Angeles-based restaurant chain, has hired Blake Rudman as president and Nathan Slattery as executive chef. Rudman was formerly director of new concept development for Real Mex Restaurants, which owns the El Torito Grill restaurant chain. Slattery was previously the executive chef at Rosa Mexicano restaurants, another chain.

Law

Valensi Rose PLC, a business law firm in Century City, has hired Gary Torrell as an attorney in the corporate law. Torrell was formerly in independent practice.


Guy N. Halgren was named chairman of the executive committee for law firm Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP. Halgren was previously serving in the same position with the company.
Haight Brown & Bonesteel has promoted Krsto Mijanovic and John M. Wilkerson as partners. They are both attorneys.


Wildman Harrold, a business law firm based in Chicago, has hired Nancy Derwin-Weiss as a partner in Los Angeles. Derwin-Weiss was formerly a vice president in the legal department of Paramount Pictures.


Non-Profit

Christopher C. Martin was named chairman for the Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting the Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital's expansion of patient care, teaching and research in orthopedic medicine. Martin is currently chief executive of Togawa Smith Martin, a residential and consultation architecture and engineering company.


Hugh O' Brian Youth Leadership, a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles, has hired Javier La Fianza as president and chief executive. La Fianza was formerly vice president of programs and chief operating officer at Crystal Stairs Inc., a child development non-profit.


Emily Kimmel has joined the Producers Guild of America, a union representing the interests of motion picture and television producers, as director of legal affairs and arbitrations. Kimmel was most recently an associate at Morgan Lewis and Bockius' Los Angeles labor practice group.


G. Scott Peterson has joined the board of the Prostate Cancer Prevention Project, a non-profit organization in Manhattan Beach supporting early detection methods for prostate cancer. Peterson is currently executive vice president and chief credit officer of National Bank of California.

Real Estate

SNK Realty, a development, construction, property management and residential brokerage company, has promoted Donald C. Peterson to president of its development division. Peterson was a senior executive with the company.


Cushman & Wakefield, a real estate services firm, has hired Douglas A. Fine and Thomas J. Parker as directors of brokerage services in its Los Angeles West office. Fine was most recently associate director at Studley, another real estate services firm. Parker was previously assistant director at Studley.


Gary R. Toeller has joined Tishman Speyer, a property owner and developer, as managing director of development. Toeller was most recently vice president of development and Los Angeles regional manager for Opus West Corp., another real estate development company.


Technology

Leighton Greer has joined Sway Studio, a visual effects studio, as head of production. Greer was formerly senior producer at Zoic Studios.


KUDOS

The Los Angeles chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners presented a series of honors at its annual awards luncheon: Nancy Silverton, founder of La Brea Bakery, was given the leadership award; Faye Washington, CEO of the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles, won the legacy award; Los Angeles Councilwoman Wendy Greuel was named civic leader of the year; and Ajaya Williams, founder and designer of AJ Kustomz, won the inspiration award. Lulu's Dessert Corp. founder Maria de Lourdes Sobrino and Kimberly Rakis, president of Premier Building Maintenance Services, were inducted into the Hall of Fame.


The National Republican Committee selected Dr. Shashank Arya as Physician of the Year. The doctor, who works at Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation in Pomona, will serve on a congressional committee of honorees and attend health care meetings in Washington, D.C.


California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, D-Los Angeles, named Dr. Sonia Molina as a Woman of Distinction for the 44th District. Dr. Molina is a practicing dentist, a commissioner for the Los Angeles Health Authority Commission and is the legislative representative for the California Dental Association.


DONATIONS

The Glendale Community Foundation awarded Path Achieve Glendale a grant of $2,500 to find permanent housing for individuals and families. The Glendale chapter of People Assisting the Homeless was chosen as the sponsor of Project Achieve Glendale by the City and the Glendale Housing Authority.
