On Assignment Inc. reported net income of $2.7 million (10 cents per share), up 50 percent from $1.8 million (7 cents) for the same period a year earlier.

Calabasas-based professional staffing firm also saw record revenue for the quarter of $75.7 million, up 12 percent from last year. The previous record was in 2002 when it reported quarterly revenue of $74.6 million.

The company pointed to increased demand for lab support personal as well as healthcare staffing, areas that saw a 22 percent and 18 percent jump in revenues, respectively.

On Assignment also increased its revenue guidance for the year, raising it to a range of $283.5 million to $285 million, up from a previous guidance of $279 million to $282 million.

Shares in On Assignment closed up 12 cents to $11.78 on Monday.
