Elderly and disabled Social Security beneficiaries will receive a cost-of-living increase next year of 3.3 percent, or $33 a month, for the average recipient, the government announced Wednesday.
Supplemental Security Income benefits for the elderly and disabled poor will rise by a like amount. AARP, the nation’s largest organization representing seniors, welcomed the benefit increase, calling it “the only lifelong hedge against inflation for most Americans in retirement today.”
